Croatia

We went to Croatia during the Good Friday weekend of 2012. We flew from Dusseldorf (NRN airport) to Zadar. Round trip plan was Eindhoven/Dusseldorf – Zadar – Plitvice Lakes – Zadar – home. One thing about Zadar is that you have plenty of hotel and apartment options where you can have sea view even at decent pricing.

Day 1: We landed in Zadar, rented a car and drove to Paklenica National Park. If you like to do mountaineering, you can do it here. There are small and big mountains to climb. We took a stroll into the mountains walking by a stream. A nice place. In the evening we drove towards Plitvice lakes. We stayed in Rastovaca village which has many hotels and is very close to the park entrance.

Day 2: After a filling breakfast, we visited the Plitvice lakes for the full day. It is very beautiful. You can walk along the lake where you see crystal clear water flowing combined with short falls every now and then. Once you walk about 3 to 4 kms, a bus brings you back to the original point. You can also do the trip otherway around. At the end of the day, we drove to Zadar for the night stay. We stayed in an apartment with sea view in the city of Sukosan very close to Zadar. Many hotels here have sea view.

Day 3: It was a Easter weekend and so on Sunday everything was closed. We drove to Kornati National Park, but it was not open. However the drive gave a glimpse of what these Kornati Islands are. They are very  beautiful right in the middle of crystal blue sea water! Nice water color, beautiful islands.
Variation possible: Plitvice is open even on major holidays. So swap Kornati and Plitvice visit if needed!

Day 4: Return to Dusseldorf early in the morning.
